Our History

Nestled just outside Leesburg’s historic district in the beautiful rolling fields of Virginia at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Stable & Vine sits on a site once home to the Dry Mill Winery and, before that, the Loudoun Hunt Club.

Leesburg, now the seat of government of Loudoun County, has a rich history. The town was established in 1758 and boasts Francis Lightfoot Lee, who signed the Declaration of Independence, as one of its original trustees. After serving as a temporary national archives during the War of 1812, Leesburg became immeshed in the turmoil of the Civil War and was the site of the Battle of Ball’s Bluff. While certainly impacted by the war, the town flourished economically and socially over the next few decades thanks to farming and other industries, as well as the railroad that connected it to Washington, which would become the Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD). Leesburg’s population boomed in the second half of the 20th century as it grew into the bustling yet welcoming town it still is. Today, Leesburg’s picturesque downtown is home to a wealth of cultural institutions, historic sites, dining establishments, and more.
